It is not always possible to choose another departure airport, especially for travelers in cities with only one option. However, some airports with the cheapest average fares were from cities with more than one airport. When researching an upcoming trip, this data provides another avenue to seek out the ultimate savings. With rising inflation and rising travel costs, any method to save money is worth investigating.

Top 5 airports with The cheapest Average prices

1) Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL) – Florida

Average plane ticket: $233.36

FLL is a popular airport serving both Fort Lauderdale and the Miami area. There are three airports you can use in Miami, and two of them rank in the top five for the cheapest average fares. If you’re flying from Miami, Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL) and Miami International Airport (MIA) will likely be cheaper than using the area’s third airport, Palm Beach International (PBI).

2) Orlando International Airport (MCO) – Florida

Average plane ticket: $241.01

MCO is one of the busiest airports in the United States and serves as a gateway to world famous theme parks like Disney World and Universal Studios. Two airports serve the Orlando area, with Orlando Sanford International Airport (SFB) being the second. If you are flying from Orlando, MCO will likely be the cheapest option.

3) Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) – Nevada

Last year, LAS ranked first airport for the cheapest average fares. However, MCO and FLL moved up the roster to claim the title. However, LAS still offers some of the cheapest fares in the country. Several other airports serve the Las Vegas area, but LAS offers the cheapest average fares. Other Las Vegas airports did not exceed the top 45 airports with the cheapest average fares.

4) Miami International Airport (MIA) – Florida

The second airport on the list serving the Miami area, MIA, is almost as busy as Orlando International Airport. The airport is slightly closer to downtown Miami than Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport (FLL). However, while FLL’s fares are significantly cheaper when searching, getting into the city isn’t much different from either airport.

5) Tampa International Airport (TPA) – Florida

Tampa International Airport

Average plane ticket: $270.88

Tampa International Airport (TPA) serves the area adjacent to St. Petersburg-Clearwater International Airport (PIE) and is closest to downtown. Fares are likely to be cheaper starting from TPA. Still, travelers can find the occasional deal that’s better out of PIE via budget carrier Allegiant, which doesn’t serve TPA.

Travelers are sure to find some of the best deals when departing from the airports listed above, but it’s also important to know which airports to avoid, if possible. The airports below are ranked at the bottom of the list of airports with the lowest average fares.
