Travel law enforcement period ends for 2022 Memorial Day holiday – Reuters

Jackson, Miss.-Mississippi Highway Patrol concluded the 2022 Memorial Day holiday travel enforcement period Monday at midnight.

The execution time began on Friday, May 27 at 00:01.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol issued a total of 15,263 citations, made 375 impaired driving arrests and cited 1,615 motorists for seat belt violations. The MHP also investigated 125 accidents resulting in 49 injuries, 4 fatalities and 4 fatalities. The fatal crashes occurred in Stone, Washington, Claiborne and Yazoo counties.

Additionally, the Mississippi Highway Patrol Motor Carrier Division performed 420 inspections on commercial vehicles during the holiday season.

Fatal crash, Stone County, 05/27/2022 On Friday, May 27, 2022, at approximately 11:49 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 49 in Stone County. A 2013 Chevrolet Malibu driven by Jacob Anderson, 33, of Saucier, MS, was traveling north on Highway 49 when it collided with a 2010 Peterbilt tractor-trailer parked on the right shoulder. A 2012 Dodge Charger driven by Lashanqua Goodwin, 33, of Gulfport, MS, was traveling north on Highway 49 when it collided with the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. Passengers Marion Rutledge of Wiggins, MS, Kevin Cole of Decatur, GA, and Lenard Harvey of Gulfport, MS, suffered moderate injuries. David L. Singletary, 55, of Wiggins, a passenger in the 2013 Chevrolet, was fatally injured in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene. This accident is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Fatal crash, Washington County, 05/29/2022 On Sunday, May 29, 2022, at approximately 1:42 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 454 in Washington County. A 2018 Harley Davidson FLHXS driven by Benjamin Crossett, 46, of North Little Pulaski, AR, was traveling west on Highway 454 when the motorcycle left the pavement and overturned. Benjamin Crossett was fatally injured in the accident. This accident is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol. Fatal crash, County Claiborne, 05/29/2022 On Sunday, May 29, 2022, at approximately 4:04 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 18 in County Claiborne. A 2003 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Eddrick D. Good, 44, of Port Gibson, MS, was traveling west on Highway 18 when the vehicle veered off the road and collided with a tree. Eddrick Good was fatally injured in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. Mr. Good was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. This accident is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Fatal crash, Yazoo County, 05/30/2022 On Monday, May 30, 2022, at approximately 11:45 p.m., the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to a fatal crash on Highway 16 in Yazoo County. A 2012 Ford F-150 driven by Haley A. McCrory, 19, of Vicksburg, MS, traveled west on Highway 16. A 2012 Honda Accord driven by Tracy A. Anderson, 57, traveled toward east on Highway 16. The two vehicles collided head-on. Tracy Anderson was fatally injured in the accident and was pronounced dead at the scene. Haley McCrory suffered unknown injuries and was transported to Merit Health in Canton. Mr. Anderson was wearing his seat belt at the time of the accident. Ms. McCrory was not wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident. This accident is still under investigation by the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
